About Me

I am a registered and accredited member of the British Association for Counsellors and Psychotherapists and work in accordance with their professional ethics. I am also a qualified clinical supervisor.

I have had a small private practice for three years but until recently had worked for nearly twelve years for a local Rape and Abuse charity and have extensive experience of working with people who have experienced sexual or domestic violence, and people who have complex mental health conditions as a result of this, and specialise in working with people who have dissociative disorders, including Dissociative Identity Disorder.

My Philosophy

I originally trained as a ‘Person Centred’ counsellor, however I now consider myself to be an 'Integrative' counsellor, which means I use an array of interventions tailored to suit individual client's needs. I believe that, as clients are unique, their needs will be too. I work with the client to explore in what ways of working might be of benefit to them. This may include talking therapy, using art, play, writing, guided visualisations, a variety of trauma reduction interventions to name but a few.

People often choose to see a counsellor because they are experiencing distress or difficulties that are affecting their life or affecting the people they care about. Counselling offers a safe, non-judgmental space to explore your concerns. Counselling is not about advice giving or persuading you to see things from my point of view, nor is it just a friendly chat about your weeks events. Counselling is about having the space to be truly heard and to work alongside me to look at what things you might like to change and how you might achieve this with my support.
