How Can

Counselling Help?

There may be times in your life when current or historical experiences may affect you deeply and you may feel you need some support to explore your feelings or to look at how you might move towards changing some aspect of yourself or your current situation.

You may be isolated or may have a supportive family, friends or partner but feel uncomfortable talking to them or may not want to burden them.

Counselling can offer a safe space where you can explore uncomfortable feelings, thoughts, beliefs and behaviours which affect your life. As showing a part of yourself that you may not be used to sharing with anyone else may leave you feeling vulnerable, scared or overwhelmed at times, I will endeavour to put you at your ease and to work alongside you at a pace you feel comfortable with.

Counselling Sessions

Counselling appointments take place at a time and location agreed between us. My aim is to help you resolve your difficulties in a way which is right for you.

My clients are young people and adults. I am currently available weekdays, Saturday mornings and Tuesday and Wednesday evenings for appointments

You can self-refer or be referred for therapy from a third party with your consent, such as from your doctor or through an employee assisted programme.

At our first meeting I will ask you some questions to gather information to get a deeper understanding of what you are experiencing and what you wish to achieve from counselling. We will then go through an agreement together which outlines what you can expect from the sessions and will include confidentiality, attendance, the way we will work together, the length and number of sessions.

Sessions are usually held weekly and on the same time and day each week unless otherwise arranged. They can be booked on a week by week basis or a number of sessions can be agreed upon in advance.

The therapy will be reviewed on a regular basis to check if it is meeting your needs and /or the goals you identified at the start of your therapy.

I offer sessions at a venue approximately a mile from the town centre of Huddersfield with an hours free on street car parking space at the front of the centre and is easily accessible by bus. There are two steps up into the front of the building and several stairs into some of the therapy rooms and toilets. Please contact me in advance if you are unable to manage stairs and we can discuss alternative arrangements. Please note, that we can, with advance notice, use a ramp at the back of the building for access for clients who use wheelchairs but we do not have disabled toilets.

I can also offer counselling sessions by Skype.

I am accredited by the BACP and have full insurance through Holistic insurance for your peace of mind.
